$5 Goodwill Challenge

I am a Goodwill junkie! There should be a 12-step program for this problem. We purchase a good deal of our clothes, home decor, and books from thrift stores. When we lived in the Cincinnati area there were tons of thrift shops to visit. We always enjoyed waiting outside of the Goodwill in Tri-County before it opened on Saturday mornings. Our new area doesn't boast such a wide selection of thrift stores.

Hillary from "my so-called home" hosts a $5 Goodwill Challenge every season. The past few years I have enjoyed watching her videos and those of the other participants. I find it very entertaining to see how she decorates her home using inexpensive items from thrift stores. She has the gift of making thing look beautiful. You would never be able to tell that the items were purchased at a thrift shop.

Today I went to my local Goodwill along with my $5. To be honest, I wasn't expecting to find anything. They usually don't have much in the way of home goods. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they added a bunch of shelving units that are now filled with dishes, decorations, and books.

These cute orange bowls were sitting on a shelf next to some plastic cups and a creepy porcelain doll. I let out a gasp when I saw them! They were just the perfect color for fall! I snatched them up for $.50 a piece. Not a bad deal!

My original plan was to put a sunflower blossom in each one. So I went over to Kroger to try to find some sunflowers. No luck. While wondering around the store I came across these adorable felt leaves in the fall and Halloween section. They were marked $1.99, but at the register they came out at $.49 each. SCORE!

I started my table decor off with a brown runner that I purchased at Kroger a few years ago. I added the adorable owl plate that was also purchased at Kroger a few years ago. I placed the bowls on top of the felt leaves and finished off with  fall scented tea lights.

I really like how my table display came out. It was really inexpensive and I had a great time putting it together.
